About Me |
Hi! I'm Julia, and I Love
Documentation and Document Design
I'm originally from Georgetown, Massachusetts and grew up there with my three older brothers, our parents, and our cats and dogs. Mom always wanted to move to Florida because she was tired of the snow and frigid winters in addition to having family in Florida; the six of us agreed that we should someday. I did not want to until after I graduated with my friends at Georgetown High School (GHS). While at GHS, I was in the upper-level chorus and in two of the school musicals: Once Upon A Mattress and Curtains in my junior and senior years respectively. I have always loved music and started singing at a very young age.
Additionally, I have been passionate about literature and helping people since I was a little kid. I always loved going to my town library and checking out new books from when I was young to when I was a senior in high school. To this day I love being able to pick up a new book to read in my free time. Whenever I could, I would take volunteering opportunities both through GHS and for my neighbors. Because of my love of helping others, since moving from my hometown to attend the University of Central Florida I do volunteer work with STC Florida. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with people who may not know what I do. For example, I took a professional editing course at UCF over the summer and many people do not like editing because they do not know how to edit properly. They also usually do not know what kind of editing needs to be done for a paper. I was the same way until I took this course and enjoyed sharing what I learned with my classmates. I began my studies at the University of Central Florida in Fall 2015, without any idea what I wanted to specifically focus on learning. Along the way, I discovered that I am really good at translating computer engineering jargon into common English, so that non-technical people can understand. Growing up in a family of engineers, I have experience from translating what my father says about his software projects for others to understand them better. While at UCF, my majored in technical communication and minored in literature. During senior year at UCF, I worked at Lockheed Martin as a College Work Experience Program student doing technical communications work for the Performance Management Teams office. Once I graduated, my time with Lockheed was over and I started looking for a job. I had some difficulty finding a job on my own and started joined STC Florida's mentoring program with the main goal of getting a job. During and after my job search, I was able to use many of my technical writing skills to good use for the chapter. I even helped redesign their newsletter! My first job out of college was as a tech writer at Siemens until the pandemic took its toll and caused many contractors, including myself, to loose their jobs. Currently, I'm a technical writer at JHT - a Precise Systems Company using my knowledge and skill in technical writing to create manuals for the government. I hope to work writing about commercial software and/or hardware in the future. Although this short biography is only a snippet of my life, the most significant thing that people should know about me is that I am passionate and dedicated in life's many ups and downs. If there is something I can do to improve a situation, I take initiative and help make my own and other's lives easier. I love using what I've learned so far to help others while seeking more opportunities to grow. |
